Cosmetic Humectant and Moisturizer:
Widely used in skin care products (creams, lotions, serums, gels, face masks) as an effective moisture-retaining agent. It absorbs and holds water in the stratum corneum, providing long-lasting hydration without greasiness. Compared to traditional urea, (2-hydroxyethyl)urea is non-irritating and does not cause stinging or burning sensations on sensitive or compromised skin.
Hair Care Ingredient:
Incorporated into shampoos, conditioners, hair masks, leave-in treatments, and styling products to improve hair hydration, reduce frizz, enhance softness and shine, and prevent split ends. It also helps maintain optimal moisture balance in the hair shaft.
Skin Barrier Enhancement: Helps strengthen the natural skin barrier function by maintaining proper hydration levels, reducing transepidermal water loss (TEWL), and improving overall skin health and elasticity.
Excipient:
Used in topical formulations (ointments, creams, gels, transdermal patches) as a moisturizing agent, penetration enhancer, and skin protectant for treating dry skin conditions such as xerosis, ichthyosis, atopic dermatitis, and psoriasis.
Anti-itch and Soothing Agent: Provides relief from itching and irritation associated with dry skin, eczema, and other dermatological conditions due to its excellent moisturizing and skin-soothing properties.
Industrial Intermediate:
Serves as a building block in the synthesis of specialty chemicals, resins, polymers, coatings, adhesives, and surfactants. It can also be used in textile processing and paper manufacturing as a softening and conditioning agent.
